“Make Film History”
TY1 took part in the ‘Make Film History’ archive film-making workshop this week. Students got the opportunity to speak with film directors and industry insiders, gained access to film archives. They learned how to create and edit their own films.

Entries from St. Anne’s students Ella Hughes, Julia Szoja and Holly Sheridan are being showcased on the Fresh Film Website as part of Fresh Fest. Ella received a prize of a pro-quality microphone for her entry and was highly commended by the judges. They all showed a real talent for film-making and have a bright future ahead of them!

Fresh Film Festival Finals today at 1pm
Best of luck to TY students Tara Lowth, Hannah Beck and Zoe Young who will be representing St. Anne’s in the finals of Fresh Film Festival at 1pm today. This is a fantastic achievement as their short film ‘In The Mirror’ was selected from hundreds of entries from across the country.
The film is also eligible for an Audience award so get voting!

TY Students in Regional Heats of Fresh Film Festival

TY students Tara Lowth, Hannah Beck and Zoe Young have made it into the Regional Heats of the Fresh Film Festival with their short film ‘In the Mirror’. The Heats are being screened online at 10.30am today and the finalists will be announced at 8pm tonight on the festival’s Youtube channel!

Congratulations to the girls on making it this far and the best of luck today!

To access the screening just go to https://freshfilmfestival.com/programme/ scroll down and click on Heats 2 under today’s date. The programme is password protected until it is due to begin and then the password is removed. The girls film is number 22.

You will be able to vote for your favourite film in your programme.

To vote for your Audience Award winner click on the link below, add the name of the film/s that you represent and select your winner by ticking the box beside your favourite film. Only the films within each programme will be listed.

Fresh Film Heats Brochure 2021

From Analog to Virtual – Fresh International Film Festival and Ireland’s Young Filmmaker Awards are celebrating their 25 anniversary of giving young filmmakers a platform to shine. Fresh International Film Festival 2021 takes place Monday, March 22 to Sunday, March 28 and features an alumni showcase and a week of film screenings and workshops with the Junior Finals taking place on Thursday, March 25 and the Seniors Finals on Friday, March 26 via a YouTube live stream. Celebrating our National Flag

Celebrating our National Flag

 

Every morning a group of Transition Year Students raise our National Flag. Our national flag, the Irish Tricolour, symbolises the desire for peace (White) between the two traditions that have lived on our island for centuries Nationalist (Green) and Unionist (Orange). The flag was first flown on March 7th 1848 from the Wolfe Tone Confederate Club at 33 The Mall Waterford City by a Young Irelander Thomas Francis Meagher. On Easter Monday April 24th 1916 the Tricolour was flown from the top of the GPO in O’ Connell Street in Dublin. Article 7 of the Irish Constitution Bunreacht na Éireann confirms the Tricolor as the national flag of the state. Today, Ireland is a changing society and there are many people living in our country for whom their National Flag is that of the country in which they were born. In celebrating our national flag and what it symbolises we also celebrate our diversity and encourage you to celebrate your own National Flag on March 16th also.
To help you celebrate on the day there is a template of a flag attached where you can write or type in what the national Flag means to you and you might like to take a photograph holding it in front of you at your favourite location, within your 5km zone of course and post it on your social media or send us your photos for inclusion here and in school for display there.
Also, you will find here the Protocol or Rules around displaying the Irish Flag and a short video where St. Anne’s has connected with our National Flag and others in different ways in the past. I hope you enjoy it and that it will encourage you to celebrate the flag on the day. If you would like to make a charity donation or mark the day in a special way please consider a donation to Missionvale Ireland. Donations will be collected after Easter when we are all back in the school building. There will be flag pins on offer for a €2 donation at that time.
As St. Patrick’s Day approaches we wish you a Happy Lá Fhéile Padraig and please stay safe and keep well.

World Book Day 2021

WORLD BOOK DAY! March 4th 2021

Hi everybody! We have a few Drop Everything and Listen events and resources to celebrate World Book Day this week.

Drop Everything and Listen Event 1 

Who? All First and Second Years

When? Friday 5th @ 10.30 – 11.00

What/Where? There is a live event entitled; BOOKS AND THE REAL WORLD. The event will go live on the World Book Day Youtube channel @ 10.30am and will last approximately 30 minutes. Students can watch independently.

Drop Everything and Listen Event 2

Who? All TY students

When? Friday 5th @11.30 -12.30

What/Where? Zoom Event hosted by Ennis Book Club Festival – ‘Louise O’Neill in Conversation with Sarah Moore Fitzgerald’. Louise will talk about her latest, award-winning novel After the Silence and do one or two readings from the book. Louise will also talk about her own favourite writers, her writing process and her advice for young writers.  Audience members will be invited to participate in an interactive Q&A. Students will be accompanied online by two teachers. The link to the event will be posted by the TY Coordinator closer to the time.

 

World Book Day – Free Books & Tokens!  

World Book Day has a series of books that are completely FREE with a World Book Day Token. The tokens can also be used to get €1.50 off any full price book or audio-book. This year we have a digital book token (click here) that can be used from Thursday 18 February – Sunday 28 March 2021. In 2021 participating booksellers will honour the tokens beyond the 28 March while stocks last. The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage children and young people to explore the pleasure of books and reading. This may sound like a very simple idea, but unfortunately, many children do not have access to books in their homes. With this token up to 15 million children in Ireland and the UK have an opportunity to have a book of their own.

Feel free to download it and share it with your families and friends so we can all enjoy a good read (and maybe some much needed peace and quiet at home!)

(There’s also a Primary School Pack attached that has lots of content/videos/activities for younger kids that might help to entertain some smaller people at home!)
